Back to the Fifties

The feminine silhouette of the fifties is back, thanks to this falls collections from Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. This look is very done and elegant, and shows off your curves with its tight waists and wide flowing skirts.

I feel very dressed up wearing this kind of look, and as I conveniently was invited to a wedding earlier this month, I decided to get my inspiration from the LV runway.

With a tight budget I also decided to try and make this dress myself. I sat down with my sewing machine for the first time in ten years – with only one piece of clothing worth of experience from that time, and actually finished in time. It might not have actually looked like the dress I was copying, but at least it held together and felt wonderfully to dance in :-)

Cape Town

After a long pause, I just had to post this update!

Summer had come and gone, and the cold is kicking in. I am actually starting to like autumn (as long as it is sunny), because of all the outwear there is to choose between. My new search is for a special item: sleeveless cape!

Yes! Miss Blair Waldorf already had it on in the episode “Last tango, then Paris”, but I feel that this item will be the new “must have“…

Here are my 3 fave I found on www.net-a-porter.com :

#1: Joseph

#2: (amazing) Alexander McQueen

#3 (and a special favorite): Vanessa Bruno

#4: A.P.C.

Desember is almost here, and that means (among other) : Party-time! Especially in Norway, a Christmas party is a big trend …  It is time to get together with your friends or/and co-workers, but it is also a time to show off your style …

Here is my wish-list for the upcoming holiday-style!

When you know the DJ and love his taste in music, turning up at gigs is the only reasonable thing to do. And when the location usually fills up with all kinds of different people, experimenting with fashion becomes a must.

My new inspiration is Fallon from Dynasty. I love the extreme power dressing of the series, but especially her layed-back elegance, still in the spirit of the eighties. The wide shoulders, narrow waists, tight skirts, and in her case – unlike her fellow castmembers – naturally flowing hair.

I wore a top I picked up in a vintage shop in Paris last summer (five euros!) with my Wolford tube. With simple ankle boots and  light evening make-up, I felt the dramatic look was modernly toned down. I also found out that wearing silver thread garments in a disco is a lot of fun in itself!

I just got back from a totally last-minute holiday trip. Sand-beach (14 km long), clear-blue Mediterranean sea and sunshine for a week - need I say more? Although fashion was really not the keyword to this holiday, I bought a new draped dress and my long-time-dream: a straw hat! I felt very ladylike, I must admit.

All tanned and relaxed – roll on Autumn!

Getting to know Coco

Fashion has taken over the movies this summer with two amazing films based on the life of Coco Chanel. Of course we had to go see both, and I think I speak for both Emma and myself when I strongly recommend them. The story of the film starring Audrey Tautou ends where the film starring Anna Mouglalis begins, and they treat different parts of the life of Gabrielle Chanel – a strong and independent woman with amazing style and creativity. The costumes were amazing, and in my opinion Anna Mouglalis has to be one of the most elegant women alive.

Going to the cinema I wanted to wear something “chanel”-ish, and once again I went for my bouclé jacket. But to make it less formal – after all I’m supposed to be relaxing in a chair, not to mention the fact that I went to the cinema by bike – I decided to pair it with some soft cotton harem pants from Samsøe/samsøe. It was fun and different, and definately comfortably enough.

In rainy times like these it’s nice to think back on the great summer I’ve had so far. Summer is the best time of year, all year I long for the sunny and warm weather. In Norway we’re used to not always being blessed with good temperatures, so I make the most out of any day that allows wearing cute dresses. Dresses are my favourite thing to wear, I love how they embrace femininity and enhances your curves- they just make you feel like a woman ;)

Here are some of the dresses I have been wearing this summer. Right now I’m in jeans and converses… The horrible weather we’re having isn’t exactly inspiring! Let’s pray for some more sun in August :)

17mai

Celebrating the National day with champagne at Aker Brygge- thrilled that my exams are over and that I’m on summer holiday!

h&m

The dress is from H&M, the first dress I have in that shade of blue, I usually pick warm colours. But this one was quite fun and refreshing.

outlet

I got this dress at an outletstore in Philly last summer, I think I paid around 100kr for it (and later saw it at Macy’s for 10 times that much :P ).

The picture was taken on my balcony, Sophie and I were having sushi and beer celebrating the end of our exams – fantastic feeling!

zara

This is in Almuñecar in Andalucia, where I spent a week in May with Sophie and Aneta. We had the best vacation ever, this picture was taken a 10 pm, we were returning from Granada where we spent the shopping and sightseeing.

The dress is actually Sophie’s (we swap clothes all the time), she got it at Zara.

old navy

Also in Almuñecar, walking around in the old townafter a day on the beach. I’m wearing a dress from Old Navy that I got in the States last summer and Sophie is wearing a beachdress from BikBok (she got soooo sunburnt that day and earned the nickname Shrimp Louie :)

oasis

Taking in the view  (we could almost see all the way to Africa) in a silk tunic from Oasis and leggings- comfiest outfit ever!

dress

Ready for a night out in Spain, it started with the Champions League finals, continued with tapas and drinks and dancing, and ended at 7 am :) Amazing time!

I got the dress at a Filippa K outlet last fall.

french connection

And finally here I am in a dress from French Connection (I got it in Stockholm when I was visiting Julia in June). The picture was taken in Mandal a couple of weeks ago when my brother had all his militarybuddies over for the weekend- awesome party!

warehouse leather biker

Dark grey biker leather jacket from Warehouse. Can be worn with just about anything: to make your everydaylook a bit edgier or tone down a dressed-up evening outfit.

silk blouse

Silk blouse (also from Warehouse). I’d wear it at work over skinny black pants or jeans or tucked in a pencil skirt. And with a cute blazer and ballerinas like the ones below from Repetto (ballerines en cuire noire, vernies)ballerines noires

lumberjack shirt abercrombie

The casual lumberjack shirts are still hot this season, this one is from Abercrombie & Fitch. Wear’em with the wornout skinny jeans below (also Abercrombie) and black studded biker boots from Topshop further down.

knee high black mc boot with chain and studs

And finally a long sleeved black wool dress (from Warehouse) that you can dress up with anklets or dress down with the boots above for example. long sleeved dress
